i believe Anthony Hopkins is signed up!
Personally, I am disappointed ( appalled actually) that we use familiar faced "celebrities"
%26amp; multi-multi-millionaires to bring inspired characters and people from the past to life!
I do not want to see Hopkins to a great job! I want Tolstoy!!
Your thoughts?
Which hollywood actor should play Tolstoy?
Hopkins is talented, but he tends to play characters the same way. His "Nixon" was an exception. But you know Hollywood: "Let's get Julia Roberts for the Mother Teresa story -- ok, if she's busy, can we get Angelina Jolie?"
Reply:Anthony Hopkins is an awesome actor. But every time I see him, I can't help but think of Silence of the Lambs. I'd like to see Daniel Day Lewis in that role. He is younger, but amazingly talented.
Reply:I fully understand the reason for your "vent." All too often, Hollywood is a self fulfilling prophesy. Actor X did a great job in Film Y, and so he gets more acting jobs.
It's the same thing in the publishing industry. Publishers don't like to take chances on new voices because of the pressure to make sales. So they continually squeeze more books out of the same stable of established writers. In the end, everything becomes very bland and predictable, like another "happy meal" from McDonald's.
Of course they want Hopkins; he can "open" a picture. I think it would be great if people had the courage to go for newer unsullied talents (and this takes nothing away from Sir Anthony). But as the cost of films increase, producers are more frightened by taking chances with unknown commodities and scurry back to proven box office favourites with a high "Q-Scores."
I TOTALLY understand what you mean, and regret the increasing trend toward what I call the "McDonaldisation" of the arts.
Cheers,mate.
Reply:ummmm about Angelina Jolie acting Mother Theresa, that would be the dumbest thing a producer/director could ever do bcos she's bi and Mother Theresa was a saint! i'd would rather stick to Julia Roberts!
=)
Reply:what we need is an 'unknown' to play the part. Or maybe a Russian actor, I mean, he'd be closer to the part than any Brit or American. And more than likely, being Russian less well known here so therfore you would only see the part and not the actor.I'm sure there is a Russian film somewhere. Richard Burton played him once, and did a good job for a Welshman. Keep The Faith!!
