They have excerpts of conversations men have typed to children and they have still shots of them exposing themselves. Some excerpts even include their phone number!! Perverts beware!! Browse a bit and see if the screen names or faces look familiar. Even better if you know of perv that is knowingly exposing himself or talking sex to a child, volunteer his sn.
Has anyone checked out perverted-justice.com? (from "To catch a predator" Dateline Special)?
Great Post! I hadn't heard of these sites until I read your question.
I am all for free speach, the first ammendment, blah blah blah
BUT, I'm even more for protecting the innocent! I know AOL, Yahoo and others have taken steps to protect kids and purge the pervs as soon as they can catch them, but let's face it, it's not nearly enough. The internet really needs some kind of watchdog or regulation to protect kids MORE without stripping us of our rights as consenting adults.
I feel parents are still the first line of defence when it comes to their own children's safty. Installing filter software like Net-Nanny, Safe Surf, etc; Checking the usage history after a child has used the computer, and of course taking surprise peeks over the child's shoulder while they're online. Sure a kid is entitled to privacy, but they deserve to be safe more than private! If they don't like the filters, well then tough, they don't have to use the computer anymore then.
I know it's as sleezy as reading a kid's diary, but when I know parents who are concerned, I reccomend a program called "KeyKey" Key Stroke Logger. It records everything typed on the computer and takes screenshots of everything the kids view. It can later be checked secretly while the kid is out of the way.
The parent has the chance to intercept a serious problem online before it gets out of hand.
Reply:Yes, quite a show. I would let my kids watch that to see who they are actually talking to on the internet (mine are still too young), but I will be sure to show them this.
Sadly, I am not surprised at how many men showed up for this.
Reply:awesome site, a must see for parents!
Reply:I couldnt believe how many men showed up. What the heck is wrong with those people???? Its just sick. For all those men knew...It was REALLY a child they were going to have sex with. I hope Dateline keeps doing it.
Reply:I might check that out later. I am so glad that more people are standing up against child abuse, especially sexual abuse of all kinds. Just the fact that it's a BIG issue is a good sign for society. Think in early 20th century, a man abusing his family wasn't a crime, it was a "domestic issue" and "child abuse" wasn't even heard of, let alone sexual abuse. And if it did happen it was something you didn't talk about or handle. The problem may not be going away as fast as we would like, but by getting it out into the open, in a few generations we may have more people growing up with the notion that sexual abuse is WRONG and completely unfathomable, the same way that most kids now can't imagine slavery being legal or accepted.
Reply:I have been watching it from the beginning and as a matter of fact, one of the pervs was a restaurant manager for a nice little place in Del Mar, not far from my home. I thought it was hilarious when the one idiot perv showed up naked. Then they caught the same guy meeting decoy the next day at the local McDonalds. And the one who laid down on the floor and said he didn't feel so well was pathetic to say the least.
I think it is important that teenagers who chat a lot see this series. Might make them think about how much information they should share with online "friends".
Also, parents, if your teen has a page on Myspace.com, there is an investigation going on there too because here in San Diego, 3 teen girls have been assaulted by strangers who found out everything they needed to know about these teens just by the information the teens themselves provided on their pages. Parents, look at their pages and see what information they have on it and monitor their activities. It's worth it!
