I didnt think my dog could get up that high?

My puppy showed us his new trick this morning. He can actually hop up on our kitchen table and drag stuff off. (this is one of those high tables....wiht bar stools) I found out because I sat my vitamins down and they dissapeared. I thought I was going nuts for a while......then he was over in the corner about an hour later with that familiar "green" look on his face. (this is the same one who gets car sick all the time) He chowed on a calcium, a fish oil, and a multi-vitamin. he didn't puke....he just looked like he was not feeling very well.

I don't think he is going to get really ill........anyone have any feedback..........besides not to leave anymore pills out.

I didnt think my dog could get up that high?
Well, I grew up on a farm and I owned one dog that would climb ladders. He would go into the haymow with us. The problem was he couldn't go DOWN ladders!

In regards to the vitamins, I cannot imagine they will be a problem. I also had dogs eat a LOT of things they weren't supposed to eat. And all of my dogs have died of old age. (My pitbull climbed up into the sink, somehow stood on his hind legs, pulled down his monthly heartworm pill box and ate 6 months of heartworm pills. He was fine!)

Good luck and Merry Christmas.
Reply:Dogs can do some amazing things.

Have you ever seen one 'climb' a chain link fence? Had to attach a break-away fence at the top, which just dumped him back into his own yard again %26amp; again %26amp; again. That really amused me %26amp; I'd sit %26amp; laugh %26amp; laugh. It would take him a good 10 to 15 min. to reach the top %26amp; then 'plop'.

Take away all the stepping places that allow him to get up there.
Reply:Discourage this by yelling "off" and spanking him. Dont' yell "Down" because that's what you yell when you want them to lie down! Use an angry voice.

You must have quite a bunny-dog.
Reply:Yup, my dogs are incredible athletes, despite the fact that I have to lift them into the car. A loaf of bread on the counter increases their agility 400%. It's amazing, really.

The ASPCA has a 24 hour animal poison control hotline - 888-426-4435. They may or may not charge you a $55 consultation fee.

Do you have any idea how many vitamins he swallowed? You should start with a call to your vet and let him know what's going on and what he recommends.

My clever dog got a bottle of vitamin e. He had diarrhea for a week, but nothing worse.

Eventually we learned that anything left out is fair game for the dogs. And if we forget to put something in a drawer or cabinet, that's our fault.
Reply:Our 1 year old BT has this same great trick! He can jump up on the 4 foot counters in the kitchen! Luckily he only goes after his treats which are in glass containers.

As for the vitamins, contact a vet. He may need to have his stomach flushed.

Reply:My chihuahua mix used to hop up on the table to. I never could figure out how she did it.

He does need to see a vet though. A human multivitamin can easily kill a dog, especially a puppy. That amount of iron on top of his puppy food could cause fatal constipation. Other things in it could be just as harmful if not more.
Reply:dogs hind legs are very strong so they can jump very high when standing still so i would advise that you teach it is naughty to jup up there by telling him off when he does it and only when you catch him doing it. it is not a trick it can be way of getting food with ease and getting fat.
Reply:What kind of dog do you have? That's pretty high for a dog to jump without getting on a chair first.

At least it was Vitamins he got a hold of and nothing poisonous.
Reply:well maybe you can leave something that wouldnt harm him but taste really nasty so he could stop doing it. like hot sauce or something. but very little of it
Reply:Amazing what they can get into, isn't it?
Reply:Your dog needs to see a vet if it ate all of those vitamins. Dogs are allergic to many products intended for humans. Go to the vet and stop leaving things like that out.
Reply:Seems odd a dog could jump that high, maybe you left a box or a chair he could get onto easily? Try putting double sided tape around the table when you aren't using it. My dog would stop and beeline the other way, he hates stuff being on his paws. Esp. sticky.
Reply:lol, ermmm well if its a big dog then im sure your dog wil be fine, its only vitamins at the end of the day. but is your dogs little then i would check it out at the vets

take care now..

PS: dont leave anymore pills out lol
Reply:Depending on the dogs size, I think the best thing for you to do is to take him to the vet. The vet may need to induce vomiting in order to prevent stomach and intestinal problems. It may not seem like a big deal because they were just a vitamin, but you have no idea what type of reaction the dog may have. Watch him closely for an hour a so to see if he will vomit it up.
